Milan won late thanks to Inzaghi in a game which was dragging towards a 1-1 result before SuperPippo struck in the 90th minute. Glenn Debattista rated the players...
Milan
Kalac – 6.0: Did not have much to do and he could do nothing to prevent Palermo’s goal.
Oddo – 6.5: Unlucky in Palermo’s goal, but made up for it with a great assist for Ambrosini in the Rossoneri’s first goal.
Bonera – 6.0: Solid in defence even though Amauri was a difficult client. In the end he limited the damage.
Kaladze – 6.0: Same as Bonera as he had a relatively quiet evening.
Jankulovski – 6.5: Good when going forward and even had a good opportunity to score.
Gattuso – 7.0: A good game for the midfielder, as he did a lot of dirty work to keep the Rosanero midfield in check.
Pirlo – 6.0: A huge improvement from his disappointing Champions League performance, but his creativity vanished in the second half. It isn't quite happening for the maestro.
Ambrosini – 7.5: Milan’s best midfielder by far. Quantity and quality, in addition to the all-important goal he scored. Seems very fresh too for this stage of the season.
Kakà – 5.5: Very nervous due to the ‘special treatment’ the Palermo players were giving him. Still far away from the levels of last season. Ancelotti replaced him at half time due to the foul he suffered in the 2nd minute of game, which could have conditioned the rest of his first half performance.
Gilardino – 5.0: A ghost, even though to be fair he did not receive too many playable balls thanks to Palermo’s excellent defensive setup.
Pato – 5.5: Just like Gilardino, but at least he managed to have one shot on goal, even though that does not justify his hype. Maybe Milan should stop presenting him as the new messiah and give him time to blossom.
Substitutes: Gourcuff – 6.5, Inzaghi – 7.5, Favalli – N/A
Palermo
Fontana - 7.0: Some excellent saves by the 41-year-old keeper kept Palermo in the game until the 89th minute. Was not at fault in either goal.
Zaccardo – 6.0: Solid display as he blocked the Rossoneri attacks from his side, but did not attack too much to cross for the attackers.
Biava – 6.5: The better of the defensive central duo for Palermo. Did extremely well throughout the entire game, covering for Barzagli as well.
Barzagli – 4.5: At fault for Milan’s second goal and almost gave away a penalty in the first half. Very poor on the night. Clearly has his heart set on a move away from the club.
Cassani – 6.5: Good performance by the central midfielder who blocked the Milan attacks before they could be transformed into goal scoring opportunities.
Guana – 6.5: Just like Cassani, he stopped the Rossoneri from creating any chances as the Palermo midfielders erected a wall in front of the penalty area. A very energetic and unflinching display.
Migliaccio – 6.5: Great assist for Bresciano, who was also the most creative of his side in the middle of the pitch.
Bresciano – 7.0: A goal (thanks to the help of Oddo) and a lot of hard work in midfield. Had to leave the pitch in the second half due to an injury. Balzaretti – 6.0: Not very impressive but did his duty by and large. Could have done a lot more in such a big game.
Amauri – 7.0: Impressive with his dribbling. Confirmed all the good things we knew about him, even though he needs to improve on his finishing.
Cavani – 5.0: Did not help his team-mate up front much. A lot of movement but not much substance.
Substitutes: Simplicio – 6.0, Tedesco - N/A
